Strategy

    Business development for growth

Montague has an ongoing role and investment in Braendler Engineering. Since 2011, we have provided strategic and corporate direction for the Company, which provides visual asset inspection services for large-scale infrastructure assets primarily in the energy sectors in Australian and Europe. In 2013 the Company established offices in Copenhagen, Denmark to focus on the servicing of the onshore and offshore Wind energy sector across Europe.

Lisa is a Director of Braendler Engineering and 50% owned logistics partner, AtSite ApS, based in Esbjerg, Denmark.

    Portfolio optimisation

The Victorian Director of Housing (DOH) is the custodian of a property portfolio valued at over $18 billion, consisting of over 76,000 individual dwellings ranging from high rise apartments, walk ups and stand alone dwellings. Montague worked with DOH to identify and model sale and lease back initiatives with the objective of partnering with institutional investors.

Implementation

    High Voltage training

Operating on or near high voltage equipment is a task that is carefully regulated by all state governments and territories within Australia.

Contractors and staff are required to undertake formal and regular training to ensure that they are competent within the regulartory framework.

Reacting to a perceived gap in this market, Montague has worked closely with the founders to establish Braendler Consulting in 2013. The Company is a registered Training Organisation and delivers tailored, site specific, high voltage and access permit training. The Company is experiencing steady growth and is now servicing clients in NSW, SA, Vic and WA across the generation, transmission, tram & train, mining and utilities sectors.

Lisa is an Executive Director, representing Montague’s investment.

    Targeted acquisitions and sale

Montague worked closely as the imbedded adviser to the board of a listed childcare operator, Peppercorn Management Group Ltd, to develop and implement strategies to underpin maintainable earnings via acquisitions, joint ventures and alliances.

Initiatives included the acquisition of competing businesses located in Australia and New Zealand, and capital raisings via a number of childcare property trusts managed or leased by the Company.

Montague advised on the ultimate sale of Peppercorn which yielded a significant return to shareholders.

Restructure and Reposition

Property Funds - repositioning for growth

Post the Global Financial Crisis, Montague has advised a number of retail property funds (and their managers) across the commercial, retail, agricultural, health care and childcare sectors. We have developed and implemented strategies to improve balance sheet quality, stabilize returns and position for future growth. This work has involved merging funds via stabled securities, disposing of non-core businesses and assets, re-negotiating debt facilities, and unwinding onerous contracts.

    Agricultural Fund – corporate restructure

Montague facilitated the successful transformation of an Agricultural Infrastructure Fund that was over-burdened by debt, underperforming lease arrangements and onerous contractual obligations to the fund manager.

Management of the Fund, which owned 18 properties, including mango, citrus, almond, grapes and poultry farms has subsequently been assigned (via unit holder approval) to Arrow Funds Management, who has successfully negotiated long-term leases with existing and new tenants. Arrow Funds has also identified and managed substantial capital expenditure programs, sub-division of properties and boundary adjustments to ensure a successful, long-term outcome for unitholders.

Montague is proud to have the managing director of Arrow, Andrew Ashbolt, as a member of its Advisory Committee.
